Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Infinity Glow

Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Infinity Glow

Big fish—particularly big brown trout—feed at night. You have to be a little crazed to be out there until the early hours of the morning, listening for big browns making toilet-flushing sounds as they gulp Hexagenia spinners and Brown Drakes. But you don’t have to completely abandon logic and fish blind. The new Amplitude Smooth Infinity Glow gives you an 8-foot glow tip on SA’s best all-around trout taper so you can see where your line is in relation to the shore, structure, or fish snout you can see breaking through the gunmetal reflection of the water.

The Amplitude Smooth Infinity has the power to bomb out streamers when nothing is hatching, to throw mouse patterns while you’re searching for “the big one,” or to dead-drift baitfish patterns below tailwater turbines. The line is a half size heavy so it’s oriented toward bigger flies and powerful turnover. You can use it all day for nymphing, terrestrial drys, streamers. When the after-dark feeding begins, the line will be already charged up for night use. Even if you don’t plan on night fishing, it’s a great all-around line with an ivory-colored tip until the sun goes down, and then you’re prepared.

Does the glowing line spook fish at night? Well, in the daytime you really don’t want to line the fish either. I believe that dropping a glowing line on top of a feeding fish at night probably spooks it less than dropping a bright orange line on one at midday. Trout feeding in the dark seem more locked into feeding and are generally far less spooky than fish under a high sun.

If you are really a “stealth mode” fly fisher, there’s good news for you, too. Also new this year is exactly the same line with a camo tip. $100 | scientificanglers.com
